Job summary

EVONA in Cambridge, MA, is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to own embedded firmware for autonomous ocean vehicles. You will drive architecture, bring-up, and integration across STM32 platforms, from board bring-up to sea trials.

Expect hands-on work with bare-metal/C RTOS, CubeMX, and hardware bring-up. You’ll collaborate with hardware teams, develop robust test frameworks, and contribute to a disciplined engineering culture geared toward field deployments.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in embedded systems, bare-metal and RTOS backgrounds.
  • Deep, hands-on STM32 microcontroller fluency (HAL/LL, CubeMX, interrupts).
  • Robust firmware for battery-powered, mobile robotics or similar systems.
  • Strong C skills and embedded software best practices.
  • Experience with JTAG/SWD debugging, test equipment, and profiling.

Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded firmware in C for autonomous ocean vehicles, including power, motor control, sensors, and comms.
  • Architect and evolve STM32 libraries, HALs, and modular codebases.
  • Bring up new hardware platforms with bootloaders and drivers.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams during full-system integration and lab testing.
  • Build automated tests and CI pipelines for reliable firmware.
  • Support sea trials and field deployments with rapid debugging.
  • Contribute to disciplined, documentation-focused engineering culture.
