Job summary

Rivian VW Group is seeking a Sr. Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety of Steer-by-Wire systems in Irvine, California. You will apply the ISO 26262 standard throughout the development lifecycle, manage the functional safety of actuators, and work with cross-functional teams to define safety concepts. The role requires a degree in Electrical/Electronic or Mechatronics and 1-5 years of automotive experience. Benefits include flex time off and a performance bonus.

Qualifications

• Degree education in Electrical/Electronic or Mechatronics (or similar).
• 1-5 years of experience within the automotive industry, ideally OEM or Tier 1.
• Proven knowledge of ISO 26262 and experience applying within an OEM or Tier 1.
• Experience with vehicle dynamics, chassis systems, or steering system design is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to Rivian's steer-by-wire feature requirements.
• Perform vehicle-level and component level safety analysis.
• Capture functional safety requirements within the requirements tool.
• Develop test case specifications for steer-by-wire functional safety requirements.
• Support bench and HIL tests as well as system and vehicle validation.
