Job summary

Qualdoc is seeking an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector for the Richmond, VA area. The role focuses on inspecting fabricated steel during production, verifying dimensions and workmanship, and ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

Senior-level inspectors with strong quality experience in steel fabrication are welcome. The position is contract-to-hire and on 1st shift, with starting pay around $31/hour and overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of structural steel fabrication inspection experience.
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and layouts.
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1/D1.5 welding standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect structural steel components during fabrication and before shipment.
• Check materials and finished work against shop drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Perform in-process and final quality inspections.
• Verify dimensions, layout, and proper part placement.
• Identify, document, and follow up on nonconforming work.
• Support quality improvement efforts and maintain inspection documentation.
• Assist with preparation for annual AISC quality-control audits.
