Job summary

Tutor Perini Corporation seeks a Superintendent - Steel for our Old Saybrook, CT project to lead structural steel erection on a major civil site. You will oversee on-site steel activities, coordinate with engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers, and ensure safety and quality across all phases.

The role requires 10+ years in steel-focused civil construction, reading structural drawings, and proven leadership. Moveable bridge project experience is a plus; OSHA 30 is preferred.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in civil or structural construction with a focus on steel erection.
• Proven experience as a superintendent or foreman on steel-intensive projects.
• In-depth knowledge of structural steel systems, drawings, welding, and bolting standards.
• Proven experience on movable bridge projects (bascule, swing, or lift bridges required).
• Familiarity with AISC standards, steel erection sequencing, and rigging practices.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and specifications.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• OSHA 30 Certification (preferred).
• NCCER or other steel erection certifications (a plus).
• Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Steel Work Oversight: supervise erection of structural and miscellaneous steel components.
• Project Coordination: collaborate with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Site Management: oversee daily field operations specific to steel work and safety compliance.
• Quality Assurance: ensure erection meets standards, conduct inspections and verify tolerances.
• Scheduling & Planning: develop and maintain schedules for steel activities.
• Safety Compliance: enforce site safety protocols and promote a safety culture.
• Problem Solving: identify and resolve field issues like clashes or fabrication errors.
• Documentation: maintain daily reports and logs; track progress against schedule.
• Stakeholder Communication: liaison between field crews, project management, and design teams.
