Job summary

IBM Software is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the Kora Storage initiative. You will tackle deep systems challenges, architect durable multi-tenant storage, and set technical standards across teams.

You’ll mentor engineers, collaborate with product and design, and drive end-to-end delivery of high-availability cloud storage solutions with low latency and scale. This role demands 10+ years in backend or infrastructure, and a proven record in distributed systems.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of backend/infrastructure development experience.
• BS, MS, or PhD in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience
• Expertise in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go or other statically typed languages
• Proven experience designing and building large-scale distributed storage systems.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems concepts including fault tolerance, consistency and scalability.
• Solid systems-level understanding (disk, network, OS).
• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to mentor and guide engineers

Responsibilities

• Storage Engine Development: Design and develop a highly available, performant, durable, scalable, multi-tenant storage engine for Kora.
• Engineering Leadership: Set the standard for engineering excellence and drive end-to-end technical solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product, design and other engineering teams to integrate storage features.
• Mentoring: Mentor engineers and help shape long-term technical direction
