Job summary

Allen Control Systems is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our team in Austin, TX or Mountain View, CA. You will provide technical leadership across software architecture and system design for autonomous robotics projects, with hands-on C++ and Python work and cross-functional collaboration.

You will influence technical direction, drive architecture decisions, and deliver robust software for production and mission-critical environments in a fast-paced defense startup.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with senior/staff level contribution.
• Strong background in C++ and Python, preferably in robotics or autonomous systems.
• Proven track record designing and delivering complex software systems across teams.
• Experience leading architecture and technical decision-making in multidisciplinary programs.

Responsibilities

• Own complex technical initiatives from concept to production deployment.
• Contribute code in challenging areas and align solutions with safety and reliability goals.
• Define and evolve software architecture and engineering standards.
• Lead cross-functional design across software, mechanical, electrical, vision, and controls.
• Influence technical direction without formal authority and shape roadmaps.
