Job summary

Nubank is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to be the chief technical authority for Money Boxes. You will design the core platform, handling high-concurrency distributed systems and multi-country asset abstraction to enable secure, scalable deposits and investments across markets.

You will define architecture, mentor engineers, and drive RFCs across Payments, Core Banking, Investments, and Security, shaping the future of personal finance technology for millions of users.

Qualifications

• Senior technical leader with experience designing and scaling distributed systems.
• Experience in fintech, banking, or investments domains is required.
• Fluent English; Portuguese/Spanish a plus for international collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Define multi-year technical vision for Money Boxes backend architecture across assets and countries.

About the role Money Boxes ("Caixinhas") is one of Nubank’s most strategic product innovations, transforming how millions of customers organize, save, and grow their money across Latin America. As Nubank expands into new geographies and financial verticals, we are looking for an exceptional Senior Staff Software Engineer to serve as the chief technical authority for our Money Boxes core platform.

In this role, you will operate at the intersection of high-concurrency distributed systems, transactional ledgering, investment asset allocation, and liquidity orchestration. You won't just maintain existing product flows—you will architect the foundational engines that enable millions of users to dynamically deposit, segment, and yield return on their savings instantly, securely, and at massive scale.

Your Mission: scale an extensible, multi-tenant Money Boxes platform that abstracts complex investment assets, yield generation mechanisms, and regulatory ledgering into simple, bulletproof platform capabilities across multiple international markets.

What You Will Own & Build

• Money Boxes Platform Architecture: Define and execute the multi-year technical vision for Money Boxes backend architecture, ensuring high extensibility to support diverse underlying assets (e.g., fixed income, yield-bearing accounts, money market funds) across different countries.

• Core Ledgering & Transaction Engines: Architect high-throughput, double-entry accounting engines and balance tracking systems that guarantee exact-once delivery, deterministic reconciliation, and real-time calculation of accruals and yield.

• Liquidity & Asset Routing Infrastructure: Design resilient execution flows for deposits, withdrawals, and auto-investments, managing real-time settlement with internal brokerages, clearinghouses, and banking rails with low latencies and zero transactional error margin.

• Multi-Country & Multi-Currency Abstractions: Abstract regional regulatory rules, local tax logic, and currency nuances into clean platform boundaries so product squads can launch localized Money Boxes experiences in record time.

• Technical RFC Leadership: Author comprehensive design documents (RFCs) and drive architectural consensus across Payments, Core Banking, Investments, and Security leadership.

• Engineering Mentorship & Technical Rigor: Elevate engineering standards across Money Boxes squads by mentoring senior engineers in distributed systems design, resilience patterns, fault tolerance, and domain-driven design.

What We Are Looking For

• Senior IC Track Record: Proven experience as a senior technical leader (Staff/Senior Staff level) designing, operating, and scaling highly available, mission-critical distributed systems.

• Fintech, Banking, or Investments Domain Depth: Deep hands-on experience building systems in transactional environments—such as savings platforms, ledger/accounting engines, investment order management, custody, or core banking infrastructure.

• Distributed Systems Mastery: Exceptional fluency in event-driven architectures, transactional consistency, distributed sagas, domain-driven design (DDD), and high-concurrency microservices.

• Platform & API Mindset: Demonstrated ability to build domain-agnostic, developer-friendly platforms and APIs with explicit contracts, SLAs, and high observability that allow consuming product teams to innovate rapidly.

• Strategic & Horizontal Influence: Proven success driving cross-organizational technical alignment, navigating architectural trade-offs, and communicating technical strategy clearly to engineering leaders, Product Managers, and General Managers.

• Language & Location: Professional fluency in English is required for international collaboration. Portuguese or Spanish is a plus. Roles are open in Brazil (hybrid model) or key US hubs..
