The role emphasizes Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, and DevOps in a mission-focused environment.

The ideal candidate will contribute across disciplines, mentor engineers, and help shape technical direction while working on containerized microservices and data processing workflows.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Physical Sciences, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Expert in Python with Pandas and NumPy.
• Proficient in TypeScript with React and Plotly.
• Strong object-oriented design, patterns, and maintainability.
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Deliver complex features end to end, both independently and with teams.

• Promote engineering best practices: testing, documentation, maintenance.

We are seeking a Senior Staff / Senior Full Stack Software Engineer with a passion to design, develop, and deliver high-quality software systems. This role focuses on distributed systems, microservices, and real-time data pipelines, working closely with scientific and technical users in a mission-focused environment.

The ideal candidate is a strong contributor with deep Python, TypeScript / JavaScript, and DevOps expertise utilizing sound software engineering judgment, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines while influencing technical direction through example and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Work both independently and collaboratively with development teams to deliver complex features end to end
• Design, implement, and maintain high-quality software aligned with program objectives
• Promote strong engineering practices, including testing, documentation, and maintainability
• Contribute to containerized, distributed microservice architectures, including development, deployment, and testing
• Design, implement, and maintain real-time or near-real-time data processing and streaming workflows
• Participate in and guide Agile development activities, including code reviews, design discussions, and sprint planning
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical collaboration and code reviews

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Sciences, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Expert in Python with previous experience using Pandas and NumPy
• Proficient in TypeScript with previous experience using React and Plotly
• Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including design patterns, modularity, and maintainability
• Expertise with Object-Oriented Programming, including modern language features and best practices
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, well-tested code
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across technical disciplines

Candidates who have any of the following skills will be preferred:

• Active TS/SCI security clearance
• Master of Science in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related engineering discipline
• Experience working with remotely sensed data or scientific data processing workflows
• Understanding of containerization (e.g., Docker, Podman), orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Helm), and deployment (e.g., ArgoCD, GitLab CI/CD)
• Experience working in Agile software development environments and using task scheduling and tracking software (e.g., JIRA)

The pay range for this position is $127,000 -$193,000 SciTec considers several factors when extending an offer of employment, including but not limited to the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills. This is not a guarantee of compensation.
