Job description

Work Flexibility: Onsite

As a Senior Staff R&D Systems Engineer , you will serve as a leading member of the R&D team for our next-generation vascular thrombectomy platforms. This role bridges advanced medical device hardware with high-performance digital ecosystems. You will lead cross-functional project teams through the entire product development lifecycle—independently researching, prototyping, and testing complex fluidic components and electro-mechanical control systems. Additionally, you will actively shape broader R&D organizational initiatives and cross-functional product strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Architect and develop closed-loop fluid control systems driven by real-time sensor feedback and integrated data acquisition architectures.

  • Utilize expert-level CAD/CAE tools to model complex mechanical, fluidic, and electro-mechanical components, producing detailed engineering drawings.

  • Specify functional requirements and evaluate final designs for overall effectiveness, lifecycle cost, system reliability, and clinical safety.

  • Build robust data acquisition frameworks to capture and analyze high-frequency sensor data during R&D testing.

  • Design and lead automated validation and verification (V&V) testing infrastructures, including custom fixture development using LabVIEW or Python.

  • Lead the physical assembly, bring-up, and stress-testing of complex R&D prototypes.

  • Work alongside R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Clinical teams to ensure design excellence and optimize components for manufacturing.

  • Drive the seamless transition of New Product Development (NPD) projects into high-volume manufacturing environments.

  • Maintain strict adherence to medical device design controls, risk management, and regulatory frameworks (Class II and Class III).

  • Act as a technical mentor across the division, establishing best engineering practices and identifying process improvement opportunities.

What You Need (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a highly related technical discipline.

  • 6+ years of direct work experience as a systems engineer in the development of Class II and Class III medical devices.

  • Proven track record leading medical device prototyping, verification testing, and cross-functional product strategies.

  • Experience with SolidWorks for complex component modeling and detailed manufacturing drawings.

  • Practical knowledge of closed-loop fluid systems, real-time sensor feedback loops, and data analytics.

  • Familiarity with medical device design controls, risk management frameworks, and strict industry compliance standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project experience applying computational fluid dynamics (CFD) concepts and simulation tools.

  • Advanced hands-on experience with automated testing platforms using LabVIEW or Python.

  • Proven leadership in V&V test automation, custom test fixture development, and NPD design transfer to production.

  • Successful, on-time completion of design transfers from R&D to active manufacturing lines.

  • Precision performance of closed-loop sensor feedback arrays under high-stress fluid dynamics.

  • Increased percentage of automated V&V test cycles, reducing manual prototype testing overhead.
