Job summary

Worky is a fast-growing AI-powered staffing marketplace seeking a senior/staff engineer to shape production systems at the intersection of applied AI and core platform engineering.

You will help define how frontier models and autonomous agents are wired into production across the full product—from worker sourcing to real-time shift matching—and partner closely with the CTO on foundational architectural decisions.

Qualifications

  • 5-10+ years of engineering experience, with 3+ years shipping features at early-stage startups.
  • Deep proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js; ability to design APIs and data models.
  • Hands-on experience building 0-to-1 agentic AI products, including harnesses and evals.
  • Experience in agentic/applied AI, matching/marketplaces, or multi-sided platforms.
  • Strong frontend experience with React/React Native across web and mobile.

Responsibilities

  • Define how AI agents are applied across the stack to automate staffing pipelines.
  • Architect and lead core systems, including real-time matching engines and vetting pipelines.
  • Own platform architecture with a multi-year horizon for infra, reliability, and scale.
  • Design agent harnesses, orchestration patterns, evaluation infra, and model strategy.
  • Integrate with customers' systems (HRIS, WMS, ERP) and run autonomously within workflows.
  • Drive backend performance through API design, data modeling, and query optimization.
  • Build and maintain frontend interfaces (web and mobile) integrated with backend services.
  • Set team standards for AI-assisted tooling and agentic development patterns.

Job description

About the Role

This is a senior/staff-level engineering role at a fast-growing AI-powered light industrial staffing marketplace, sitting at the intersection of applied AI and core platform engineering. You'll help define how frontier models and autonomous agents are wired into production across the full product - from worker sourcing and vetting to real-time shift matching - and partner closely with the CTO on foundational architectural decisions.

What You'll Do
  • Define how AI agents are applied across the stack to automate the end-to-end staffing pipeline.

  • Architect and lead core systems including real-time matching engines and autonomous vetting pipelines powered by ML and agents.

  • Own platform architecture with a multi-year horizon, balancing infrastructure, reliability, and scale.

  • Design agent harnesses, orchestration patterns, evaluation infrastructure, and model strategy.

  • Integrate with customers' operational systems (e.g. HRIS, WMS, ERP) and act autonomously inside their workflows.

  • Drive backend performance through thoughtful API design, data modelling, and query optimisation.

  • Build and maintain front-end interfaces (web and mobile) integrated with backend services.

  • Set team-wide standards for AI-assisted tooling and agentic development patterns.

What We're Looking For
  • 5-10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 3+ years shipping features and products at early-stage startups with measurable business impact.

  • Deep proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js; proven ability designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models using PostgreSQL, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.

  • Hands-on experience building 0-to-1 agentic AI products, including agent harnesses, evals, and orchestration.

  • Experience shipping in two or more of: agentic/applied AI, matching or recommendation systems, marketplaces, multi-sided platforms, recruiting, or non-technical user-facing products.

  • Front-end experience with React and React Native across web and mobile.

  • Strong CS fundamentals, ideally from a rigorous technical programme.

  • Comfortable operating in high-velocity, ambiguous, cross-functional environments.

  • Track record of sustained tenure at previous roles (2+ years), with meaningful ownership demonstrated at each.

  • Strong opinions on where to draw the line between prompting, fine-tuning, retrieval, and code.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $200,000 - $300,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Location

On-site, 5 days per week in New York, NY.
