Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Platform Payments team. You will define the engineering vision for fiat movement across 50 countries and rails, owning multi-quarter strategy and driving platform-level improvements affecting payment success, latency, and cost.

You will mentor engineers, set standards for financial correctness, and partner with Finance and Regulatory groups to balance user experience with risk controls and unit economics.

Qualifications

• 10 years building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
• Deep experience with backend languages such as Go, Java, Python.
• Strong money-movement architecture knowledge and high-volume payments.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives and mentor engineers.
• Clear communication of complex tradeoffs to executives and teams.
• Experience applying AI thoughtfully to improve workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive multi-quarter technical strategy for Payments across rails and transfers.
• Architect core Payments platform for availability, latency, and cost efficiency at scale.
• Lead end-to-end design and rollout of large cross-team initiatives with milestones.
• Set technical standards for financial correctness, idempotency, reconciliation, auditability.
• Collaborate with FinHub, Payments Risk, Regulatory, and Product on architecture.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise system design quality and maintainability.
