Job summary

Lunar Outpost in Denver, CO is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer, Research and Development to advance space robotics and planetary vehicle design for NASA missions and commercial programs.

Onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with remote work allowed on Wednesdays. You will design parts and assemblies, run FEA for weight optimization, and ensure compliance with NASA standards in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks; experience with FEA and CAM.

Responsibilities

• Design parts and assemblies – including vehicle structures, electronics packaging, mechanisms and deployable structures.
• Perform basic loads and stress analysis (FEA and hand-calcs) to optimize parts for weight savings and to demonstrate designs.
• Participate in material, hardware, actuators, sensors selection.
• Inspect and assemble hardware of various types.
• Participate in rapid prototyping efforts and test events.
• Ensure mechanical designs comply with NASA standards (margin, tolerance stack-up).
• Prepare mechanical products for milestone and safety reviews.
• Collaborate with a team of engineers across multiple projects, managing timelines, budgets, and quality.
