Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what's possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions, and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

Vehicle Validation is a commitment that our products have been tested to a level that confirms they will meet customer expectations for function, quality, reliability, and daily use. At Rivian, it includes looking at the full system model, including feedback to support clear requirements, ensuring these requirements meet customer usage, prioritizing validation plans based on DFMEA work, and confirming that vehicles are fit for use to support this testing. As a Staff Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for understanding the program direction, test plans, performance requirements, build milestones, and fit/function of our products. You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that we have a robust validation plan that demonstrates and tracks to complete verification and validation at launch. Coverage will include validation plan integration from hardware and software concept until end product delivery. You'll be part of a team that supports all of Rivian's vehicle models and features. Your team will interface with various cross-functional teams that will be building assets and running tests, and you will need to demonstrate an intimate understanding of the tools and processes to integrate these teams and plans to balance risk, cost, timing, and scope.

Responsibilities
  • Program Integration & Planning: Collaborate with program teams to align validation timelines, expectations, and build planning.
  • Risk Assessment & Quality Alignment: Work with quality engineering to complete risk assessments and DFMEAs on time, ensuring validation plans meet quality expectations.
  • Validation Oversight: Manage the full validation process from requirements to production sign-off, tracking component and vehicle-level testing.
  • Pre-Production Asset Planning: Ensure all pre-production vehicles (prototype, mule, validation builds) are fit for purpose, managing budgets and quantities efficiently.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Align engineers, purchasing, manufacturing, quality, testing, and other teams around validation plans and build needs.
  • Issue Management & Escalation: Identify and resolve validation gaps, escalate critical validation issues, and drive for complete closure of both.
  • Reporting & Leadership Communication: Present validation status, risks, and mitigation plans to leadership in routine check-ins.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement validation process improvements for current and future programs.
Qualifications
  • The ability to influence people around you to get clarity on decisions at senior business levels.
  • In-depth experience with program management.
  • A strong curiosity to build better systems to share data and information.
  • A background in engineering (bachelors in engineering required, postgraduate degree preferred).
  • A full understanding of the development process and the ability to bring technical knowledge to identify and solve problems.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and motivate people to prioritize validation.
  • Knowledge of vehicle milestones, timelines, and the overall development process, with a strong background in the interaction of system engineering.
  • An understanding of production, retrofit, and prototyping processes, and the advantages of utilizing these to achieve a needed result.
  • The ability to make decisions with confidence and inspire people to follow your direction.
  • The ability to learn, think creatively, solve problems, and work hard.
  • The ability to stay positive, provide clear information and direction, and motivate those around you to achieve the best quality possible.
