GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to join our PaaS organization within the File Exchange team. In this role, you will build & scale next-generation file transfer and file sharing platforms to support services within GEICO & with external partners. This position is key in driving our insurance business transformation and redefining customer experiences.

The Senior Staff Engineer collaborates with a team of Staff and Senior Engineers to innovate, build, and improve systems, as well as identify new opportunities for applying technical expertise. You will lead the development of a technical roadmap to enhance product delivery and engineering capabilities.

Position Responsibilities

• Provide technical and thought leadership in designing, building, and deploying enterprise applications.
• Develop and implement strategies for software development across various domains.
• Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
• Influence and educate leadership at all levels.
• Share best practices and improve processes across teams.
• Assess resource needs, evaluate operational processes, and promote continuous learning.
• Collaborate with application teams and business partners to standardize file sharing practices and scale products from inception to deployment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in designing and developing complex, multi-tier distributed systems, managing millions of file transfers.
• Proficiency in at least two OOP languages such as Java, Go, Python, C++, etc.
• Experience transitioning research into production environments.
• Knowledge of CI / CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and open-source tools like GIT, Jenkins, CircleCI, SonarQube, Terraform, Ansible.
• Deep understanding of data structures, algorithms, and analytical problem-solving.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana and Prometheus, messaging solutions like Azure Service Bus and Event Hub.

Experience

• 10+ years in software engineering.
• 8+ years building scalable 3-tier applications serving millions of customers.
• Experience with open-source frameworks (desired).
• 4+ years working with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and DevOps practices.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
