Job summary

Lyft is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Lyft Business team in San Francisco. You will own complex distributed systems that support rider, admin, and enterprise integrations, shaping roadmaps and driving engineering excellence.

You will translate business goals into actionable projects, mentor engineers, and ensure platform stability, observability, and scalable design across teams. This role combines technical leadership with collaboration in a hybrid office setting.

Qualifications

• BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, CS, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with leadership and system ownership.
• Deep expertise in fault‑tolerant, highly available, large‑scale distributed systems.
• Experience driving roadmaps, cross‑team dependencies, and influencing architecture.
• Knowledge of distributed databases, relational, and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with public cloud platforms and modern container tech (Kubernetes, Docker, cri‑o).
• Ability to communicate technical trade‑offs to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Collaborative mindset with mentoring and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Shape long‑term architecture and take accountability for both functionality and health.
• Translate business goals into actionable engineering projects and roadmaps.
• Improve observability, performance, and reduce technical debt across teams.
• Define deployment practices and ensure on‑call health and platform stability.
• Drive alignment across product, design, and operations; resolve bottlenecks.
• Mentor engineers, lead cross‑team reviews, and participate in hiring.
• Collaborate within Lyft’s broader engineering community.
