Job summary

Lyft is seeking an Engineering Manager on the Core Rider team to own foundational systems and rider functionality, shaping architecture and roadmaps, and partnering with product managers and data scientists.

This hybrid New York City role requires 5+ years of software engineering with leadership and 3+ years of people management; you will lead cross-functional efforts to improve observability, reliability, and scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering with technical leadership.
• 3+ years of people management experience.
• Experience launching consumer-facing products.
• Experience on growth-focused teams responsible for top-line metrics.
• Experience managing diverse engineering roles (server/mobile).
• Excellent communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Drive team execution, resolve bottlenecks, and trade-offs.
• Partner with Product, Design, Marketing, Science, Analytics to set direction.
• Own team roadmap from conception to delivery, manage dependencies and risks.
• Contribute to observability, reliability, and on-call processes.
• Ensure technical excellence via architecture reviews and tech debt management.
• Foster team health and collaborative culture, manage resourcing.
• Develop careers by mentoring and providing feedback.
• Share learnings across teams and align on standards.
• Participate in Lyft’s broader engineering community and interviewing.
