GEICO’s Cybersecurity organization has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Senior Staff Engineer – Cybersecurity Data Protection Engineering. This individual will play a key role within GEICO’s Cybersecurity Data Security, Protection, and Privacy team, focusing on data protection management.

Position Description

Our Senior Staff Engineer – Cybersecurity Data Protection is responsible for leading efforts to identify, assess, and evaluate vulnerabilities and threats to information systems and sensitive data. This includes conducting risk assessments, recommending controls, and monitoring security measures. The role also involves mentoring other data protection engineers and developing the data security program.

Position Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement data protection strategies, including classification, access controls, encryption, and retention.
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to enforce policies and comply with regulations.
  3. Maintain data security policies, procedures, standards, and ensure compliance.
  4. Create data inventories and manage data sharing controls.
  5. Design and implement data access controls for sensitive data.
  6. Develop and enforce data retention and encryption standards.
  7. Lead incident response for data breaches and mitigate impacts.
  8. Conduct regular data risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
  9. Stay updated on cybersecurity developments and align practices with industry standards.
  10. Mentor data protection engineers and review their work.
  11. Represent GEICO in external meetings and industry interactions.
Qualifications
  • Experience with data discovery, classification, handling, access, inventory, and retention.
  • Knowledge of data protection technologies like encryption, tokenization, DLP tools.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, or .NET.
  • Experience designing enterprise data security solutions.
  • Proven management and supervision of data protection teams.
  • Experience with data protection programs covering discovery, inventory, risk assessments, encryption.
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Understanding of data privacy laws (e.g., NYDFS, PCI).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Experience
  • 7+ years in cybersecurity, focusing on data protection and privacy.
  • 4+ years with open-source frameworks.
  • 3+ years in architecture and design.
  • 3+ years with cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
Certifications
  • Desired: CISSP, CISM, CRISC.
Salary

$90,000 - $260,000 annually. Final salary depends on experience, education, location, and market factors. GEICO considers sponsorship for employment authorization.
