Job summary

Findhelp is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure to lead and automate our cloud platforms. You will own the IaC strategy, monitor and alerting systems, and ensure reliable service delivery while mentoring engineers and shaping architecture across the R&D organization.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, balance cost and performance, and drive on-call responsibilities to maintain high availability for our customers in a mission-driven company.

Qualifications

• Eight plus years of experience at a cloud-based SaaS company.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Significant experience designing and maintaining Cloud infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code; GCP and Terraform OSS preferred.
• Significant experience designing and maintaining Cloud networking; Cloudflare Workers preferred.
• Significant experience with DevOps and SRE practices, especially with Python and JavaScript-based apps.

Responsibilities

• Understand and own existing GCP and Cloudflare infrastructure including costs.
• Design and implement the next iteration of infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Understand and own existing monitoring and alerting stack; design next iteration.
• Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation; contribute to build tools and pipelines.

About The Role

The R&D Department is made up of different disciplines including software and database engineers, quality, technical implementation. R&D designs and develops requested product features, fixes bugs within our platform, provides technical analysis and estimation, ensures successful integration installations, manages and monitors the health of our platform, and develops automation and tooling for efficient and reliable software development processes. R&D works cross-functionally with many other departments in the organization as a team to fulfill Findhelp’s mission of connecting all people in need and the programs that serve them with dignity and ease.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, Cloud Infrastructure, you will play a leading role in developing robust processes and automated tools for our engineering teams to use. Your day‑to‑day activities will include designing a self‑service infrastructure‑as‑code approach to our cloud projects, ensuring the availability of our services through a sustainable on‑call rotation, and building the tools to enable our development teams to ship and monitor their code with as much confidence as possible.

The team you will be joining is made up of engineers with different skills and experiences. You will be one of many technical leaders on this team, working in close collaboration within your team and the rest of Engineering through standard Scrum practices.

What You’ll Do

• Understand and take ownership of existing GCP and Cloudflare infrastructure, including costs.
• Design and implement the next iteration of infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Understand and take ownership of existing monitoring and alerting stack.
• Design and implement the next iteration of monitoring and alerting.
• Participate in team 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Assist team in work related to build tools and deployment pipelines.
• Contribute consistently to efforts spanning multiple engineering divisions and departments, both in implementation and architecture.
• Understand how your work affects real users and their needs and build that into your work and mentorship.
• Weigh tradeoffs and priorities with parties on other teams and departments.
• Model positive behavior in complex technical and project management interactions.
• Coach others on work management and proactively prevent blockers and conflict.
• Share your experience to help others advance in their development.
• Ask for help when you need it.
• Given a team objective of any scope, plan and execute the work necessary to get it from idea to done.
• Lead engineering through the example you set with your attitude, work ethic, and contributions to engineering’s technical and cultural growth.

Qualifications

• At least eight (8) years of experience, a significant portion of which should have come at a cloud-based SaaS company
• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
• Significant experience designing and maintaining Cloud infrastructure with infrastructure-as-code required, experience with GCP and Terraform OSS preferred
• Significant experience designing and maintaining Cloud networking, experience with Cloudflare Workers preferred
• Significant experience with Devops and SRE techniques and practices preferred, especially in Python and JavaScript-based applications

Physical demands and work environment

• This job is based on-site in Austin, Texas.
• This is largely a sedentary role; standard office equipment is used, such as laptops, monitors and headsets, if needed.
• Limited travel may be required.

This position is in office and candidates must be located in Austin, Texas or Madison, Wisconsin.
