Senior Staff Cloud Engineer
Senior Staff Cloud Engineer owns the cloud and is responsible for architecture, administration, maintenance and availability of all cloud infrastructure and supporting tools. The role includes providing thought leadership, driving cloud strategy, and championing automation and orchestration across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Provide thought leadership and build cloud solutions that deliver high impact business value and customer delight.
- Lead the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and maintainable cloud solutions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including business partners, Product Managers, and designers—to define product requirements and direction.
- Drive technical innovation and improve the design and architecture of cloud systems toward leading‑edge technologies and practices.
- Define, develop, and drive cloud engineering best practices.
- Become an expert in the business process domain to align technologies with business outcomes.
- Develop cross‑disciplinary knowledge and market context to drive organization‑level solutions.
- Work with engineering leadership to develop and execute the company’s technical and business strategy.
- Conduct impact analysis to identify the impact of changes across multiple applications/systems.
- Perform technical due diligence and architectural assessments of third‑party technologies and solutions.
- Experiment, test ideas, validate assumptions, and recommend solutions.
- Document standards, best practices, and engineering artifacts.
- Debug critical production problems and execute effective solutions.
- Anticipate customer needs and industry shifts to improve design and overall engineering practices.
- Participate in talent selection and mentoring of team members.
- Develop standard architectural practices and lead solutions across partner engineering groups.
- Define and document best practices regarding cloud deployments and maintenance.
- Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale maintain high standards of quality.
- Conduct routine environment audits of cloud accounts for compliance with established standards.
- Maintain a comprehensive cloud library of all supporting documentation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience designing scalable Cloud/Hybrid environments.
- Strong background in AWS and Azure.
- Experience developing and managing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Ansible, GitHub, etc.
- Lead role overseeing technical direction for multiple Cloud/Platform/DevOps/SRE teams.
- Experience driving adoption of Cloud engineering best practices.
- Hands‑on experience with LLM integration patterns and at least one LLM gateway or proxy product (e.g., LiteLLM, Portkey, AWS Bedrock Gateway).
- Expert knowledge of DevOps processes.
- Experience with policy‑as‑code frameworks (OPA, Cedar, or equivalent) in production cloud environments.
- Experience with observability and alerting tools such as PagerDuty.
- Ability to use Excel or similar tools for data analysis.
- Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, ELK, Splunk) and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with agentic orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph or LangChain.
Preferred
- Experience in a hybrid Cloud/Data Center environment.
- Experience with SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS deployments.
- Experience with backup and data protection technologies.
- Experience with virtualization environments.
- Experience with Oracle and Google clouds.
Knowledge and Skills
- Expert knowledge of cloud best practices and complex software engineering products.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud computing, and microservices architectures.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor senior‑level members.
- Track record driving continuous improvements with cloud technology.
- Proven ability to drive automation and build self‑service capabilities for engineers.
- Ability to right‑size cloud infrastructure for cost and performance.
Compensation
Competitive base salary range: $161,000 – $237,000. Eligible for an annual variable bonus of cash and equity (15‑30%). Bonus amounts based on individual performance. Additional premium may apply for major metropolitan hires.
