This is a growth hire on a small, sharp engineering team. You won't be handed a detailed spec here, you'll be handed a real, unsolved problem and trusted to define the approach yourself. If you do your best work with genuine autonomy, this is built for you.

Responsibilities:

• Independently gather requirements and design high-impact, complex systems, writing real technical design docs that weigh cost, scalability, and maintainability
• Act as a technical lead for others, mentoring engineers and giving constructive feedback
• Set the standard for velocity and quality, contributing to codebase improvements beyond your own immediate tasks
• Coordinate across teams to align technical strategy and share best practices

Tech stack:

Python, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, distributed systems, microservices, PostgreSQL, and event-driven architecture.

• Comfortable working in Python day to day, with real experience in other languages like Java, Kotlin, Scala or Go a genuine plus, we actually prefer a mixed background over someone who's only ever worked in one language.

The ideal profile would have:

• Senior to Staff level experience, strong software engineering fundamentals first, genuine coding ability, not just familiarity with data tools
• Real experience designing systems in cloud/distributed environments, has operated beyond a single machine
• Comfortable and productive in Python, with exposure to other languages seen as a real strength, not just a nice to have
• Demonstrated business impact, not just technical output
• Genuinely thrives without a detailed spec, if you need a clear set of requirements to do your best work, this isn't the right fit
• Not a DevOps/Terraform specialist, that's covered elsewhere on the team

Bonus, not required:

• Data engineering background (pipeline orchestration, data lake formats, object storage)
• ML experience with real measurement fundamentals (precision, recall, model quality), not just prompt tuning
• Experience building AI agents and tooling
