Job summary

Sanctuary for Families, New York's leading service provider for survivors of gender violence, seeks a Senior Staff Attorney to oversee immigration, vacatur and criminal justice matters within the Anti-Trafficking Initiative. The role includes supervising attorneys, educating professionals, and advocating for survivors.

The Budgeted Salary ranges from $82,000 to $96,500 per year, with a full-time, salaried-exempt status.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice law in a U.S. state bar.
• Minimum 5 years of immigration and/or criminal law experience.
• Extensive knowledge of federal/state laws on human trafficking, immigration & criminal law.
• Strong writing, research, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Bilingual English and another community language (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin).

Responsibilities

• Screen and provide legal representation for survivors of human trafficking and their families.
• Train, supervise, and mentor pro bono attorneys, staff attorneys, interns, and volunteers.
• Advocate for clients with immigration, criminal justice, public benefits, and related agencies.
• Collaborate with clinicians and law enforcement to secure the best results for clients.
• Represent Sanctuary at service provider and community events.
• Design and deliver trainings on human trafficking and related gender violence issues.
• Develop targeted initiatives for culturally competent legal services and outreach.
• Collaborate with data team to compile progress reports for funders.
• Perform other duties as requested by the Director of ATI.
