This role will be based in Sunnyvale, CA.
Responsibilities:
This is a Senior Technical Leader role providing thought leadership and individual contribution within a team of Senior and Staff/Lead AI Engineers, reporting to the Director of the Foundational Algorithms (Core AI) team.
- Lead the development of next-generation recommender systems based on foundational LLMs.
- Design and train large language models (LLMs) from scratch or adapt existing models to achieve state-of-the-art performance in LinkedIn’s domain.
- Drive architectural decisions for model development and deployment, ensuring scalability, efficiency, and robustness.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship, fostering innovation and excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify high-impact opportunities and integrate models into the platform.
- Stay at the forefront of research in LLMs, contributing through publications and presentations.
- Define and execute evaluation strategies to benchmark model performance against state-of-the-art solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in a technical leadership role such as Lead Engineer, Staff Engineer, or Principal Engineer.
- 5+ years of industry experience in AI or Machine Learning.
- BA/BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 10+ years of industry/research experience, including extensive work on large-scale recommender systems.
- PhD in Computer Science, AI, ML, or related field.
- Expert understanding of deep learning architectures, especially Transformers, and experience training and fine-tuning LLMs for recommendation tasks.
- Strong programming skills in Python and frameworks like PyTorch.
- Significant contributions to AI through publications or open-source projects.
- Ability to develop models that interpret complex instructions and evaluate their own progress.
- Knowledge of reinforcement learning techniques and their application to language-based environments.
- Experience with model evaluation, benchmarking, and developing novel methodologies.
- Familiarity with techniques for reasoning and planning in LLMs, such as program synthesis and neuro-symbolic AI.

Compensation:
