Job summary

Giant Oil Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting in a fast-paced convenience store and gas station franchise.

You will collaborate with management to ensure GAAP compliance, participate in month-end and year-end close, assist with audits, and identify process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency across the finance function.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required.
• 5+ years of accounting experience with emphasis on general ledger reconciliations.
• Strong GAAP knowledge and financial reporting experience.
• Proficiency in PDI, QuickBooks, NetSuite and Excel required.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication; able to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger reconciliations.
• Review AR/AP postings and aging reports for accuracy.
• Assist month-end and year-end close and financial reporting.
• Support internal and external audits with documentation.
• Identify and implement process improvements for reporting and controls.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Senior Staff Accountant to support the financial operations of our growing organization. The Senior Staff Accountant will play a critical role in managing general ledger account reconciliations, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, accounts receivable and payable, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to accuracy and timeliness.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Prepare and maintain accurate journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, and financial records.
• Review A/R and A/P general ledger postings and aging reports for accuracy and reconciliation to control accounts.
• Assist in month-end and year-end close processes and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Assist with year end audit as required.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements and management reports to support decision-making.
• Collaborate with management to provide insights into financial performance.

Compliance and Audits

• Ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards, regulations, and company policies.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and support.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
• Support the implementation of new systems, tools, and procedures to enhance financial reporting and controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in accounting including emphasis on general ledger account reconciliations.
• Strong understanding of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., PDI, QuickBooks, NetSuite) and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to identify and solve problems.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Petroleum/C-Store industry experience and PDI software experience preferred.
