Job summary

Calumet Specialty Products Partners L.P. in Montana is seeking a Senior Accountant to perform critical daily, weekly, and monthly accounting, reporting, and analysis for the Montana/Renewables business unit.

The role collaborates with plant operations, project teams, and senior leadership to provide financial reporting, budgeting support, and decision analytics, with travel to the plant as needed. Proficiency in Excel and SAP is preferred and valued.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries and ensure accuracy per policies.
• Analyze P&L and balance sheet trends for the business unit.
• Support reporting for renewable fuels programs and environmental metrics.
• Coordinate SAP-related accounting processes and data validation.
• Assist budgeting and forecasting for the Montana/Renewables unit.
• Travel to the plant as needed and maintain proper documentation.

Purpose:

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for performing key daily, weekly, and monthly accounting, reporting, and analysis activities supporting the Montana/Renewables business unit. The role will work closely with plant operations, project teams, and business leadership to provide financial reporting, business analysis, and decision support for the Montana/Renewables business unit.

Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

• Prepare and post journal entries, review staff-prepared entries, and ensure accounting transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with company policies and internal controls
• Analyze business trends and review P&L and balance sheet trends for the business unit
• Support analysis, accruals, and reporting related to renewable fuels programs, environmental credits, carbon intensity metrics, and associated business performance drivers
• Support SAP-related accounting processes related to crude oil and renewable feedstock purchases, system testing, financial data validation, and troubleshooting of business transactions
• Coordinate tracking and forecasting of site capital spending (liaison with MT capital projects team)
• Partner with operations, accounting, and information systems teams to develop reporting improvements, automate recurring processes, and improve financial data quality
• Provide support and assist in the preparation of annual budgets for the business unit
• Ensure all work is conducted according to company policies and procedures and all work is documented thoroughly while maintaining and supporting internal and external controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information
• Ability to travel to the plant, as needed
• Additional duties as assigned

Required Education/Experiences:

• Bachelor's or Associates degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, or related fields.
• Experience working with large sets of data
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, and other formulas)

Preferred Education/Experiences:

• SAP experience
• Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and ability to apply them to the organization's accounting needs
• Familiarity with internal control frameworks and SOX compliance
