Job summary

The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join our Financial Reporting & Analysis team. You will contribute to accurate financial reporting, analyze performance, and support accounting and audit activities across departments.

Responsibilities include preparing statements, supporting close processes, identifying variances, and delivering insightful management reports to guide decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• At least four years of experience in accounting or financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB standards.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare quarterly financial statements, supporting schedules, and monthly Board reports, ensuring accuracy and consistency across financial reporting.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
• Analyze financial results, investigate variances, and identify trends and potential areas of concern.
• Develop management reports that provide financial insights and support informed decision-making.
• Contribute to the preparation of the Authority's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and annual Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) reporting activities.
• Coordinate assigned external audit activities, including preparing audit schedules and tracking auditor requests.
• Maintain the general ledger chart of accounts, including account structures, hierarchies, and reporting classifications.
• Research and apply GAAP and GASB accounting standards to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.
• Partner with Accounting, Finance, and other departments to resolve reporting issues, improve processes, and support special projects.

Summary: The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our Financial Reporting & Analysis team.
