Job summary

Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) seeks a Deputy Controller, Director of Accounting, to oversee the Authority’s accounting operations, general ledger, and policy governance. The role ensures GAAP compliance for governmental entities and leads the closing process and automation initiatives.

The position reports to the Controller, with responsibility for accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and external audit management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
• CPA certification required; masters a plus.
• Minimum of 8 years of work experience with progressive levels of responsibility and people management.
• Technology-forward and comfortable with leading change.
• Experience managing enterprise accounting and ERP solutions (Oracle, SAP, other).

Responsibilities

• Oversee the full spectrum of general ledger activities and accounting policy governance.
• Lead month-end and year-end closing, manage closing calendar, and review financial results.
• Own reconciliation of all subsidiary ledgers and ensure balance sheet integrity.
• Maintain accounting policies and procedures; monitor changes to standards.
• Manage payroll accounting in coordination with HR and outside vendor.
• Lead external audit processes and improve accounting efficiency.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

CPA certification

Masters degree a plus

8 years of progressive accounting leadership
