Job summary

AvidXchange, a Charlotte-based fintech/payments leader, seeks a Senior Staff Accountant to lead expense accounting, accruals, and financial reporting. You’ll drive accuracy in month-end close, support audits, and partner with FP&A, Marketing, and Tech to optimize processes.

With 3–5+ years in accounting and strong US GAAP knowledge, you’ll influence decisions, mentor junior staff, and contribute to scalable, compliant financial operations in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or relevant certification preferred.
  • 3–5+ years of accounting experience.
  • Deep understanding of US GAAP and practical application to complex expense and accrual scenarios.
  • Experience in public accounting or fast-paced industry roles preferred.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Workday and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence across teams.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead expense accounting and accrual processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
  • Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Analyze contracts, invoices, and business transactions for proper expense classification and accrual treatment.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual expense and accrual schedules, identifying trends and insights.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries.
  • Drive process improvements across corporate accounting workflows to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with FP&A, Marketing, and Technology to review contracts and assess accounting impact.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders on expense and accrual matters and provide recommendations.

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will focus on expense accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting within our fast-growing fintech/payments business. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills and hands‑on experience with complex accounting transactions. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in driving accurate financial reporting, supporting audits, and partnering with cross‑functional teams to optimize processes.

What You'll Do
  • Lead expense accounting and accrual processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

What We're Looking For
