AvidXchange in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to focus on expense accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting within our fast-growing fintech business. The role requires strong analytical skills and hands-on experience with complex accounting transactions.

You will lead reconciliations, prepare schedules, support audits, and drive process improvements while partnering with FP&A, Marketing, and Technology to review contracts and assess accounting impact.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of accounting experience.
• Deep understanding of US GAAP and applying it to complex expense and accrual scenarios.
• Experience in public accounting or fast-paced industry roles.

Responsibilities

• Lead expense accounting and accrual processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations with timely resolution of discrepancies and proper documentation.
• Analyze contracts, invoices, and transactions to guide expense classification and accrual treatment.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual expense and accrual schedules and identify trends.

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This role will focus on expense accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting within our fast-growing fintech/payments business. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills and hands-on experience with complex accounting transactions. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in driving accurate financial reporting, supporting audits, and partnering with cross-functional teams to optimize processes.

What You'll Do

• Lead expense accounting and accrual processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.


• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, timely resolution of discrepancies, and proper supporting documentation.


• Analyze contracts, invoices, and business transactions to provide guidance on proper expense classification and accrual treatment.


• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual expense and accrual schedules, identifying trends and providing actionable insights.


• Perform balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, timely resolution of discrepancies, and proper supporting documentation.


• Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to inquiries accurately and promptly.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or relevant certification preferred.


• 3–5+ years of accounting experience


• Deep understanding of US GAAP and practical experience applying it to complex expense and accrual scenarios.


• Experience in public accounting or fast-paced industry roles preferred.


• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.


• Proficiency in Workday and Microsoft Excel.


• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.


• Proven ability to lead projects, drive process improvements, and mentor junior staff.
