Job summary

Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to support Wikimedia’s public facing infrastructure and help scale Wikipedia’s global platform. You will work with Puppet, Kubernetes, and open source tooling while operating in a remote-first environment and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

You will collaborate with global teams, automate deployments, and contribute to reliability improvements across distributed systems.

Qualifications

6+ years experience in an SRE/Operations/DevOps role as part of a team.
Experience with shell and scripting languages used in an SRE context (Python, Go, Bash, Ruby; we primarily use Python).
Experience with distribution caching systems and how to optimize their performance.
Experience with package management on Linux systems (Debian).
Strong Linux system-level troubleshooting skills.
History of automating tasks and processes, identifying gaps, and automation opportunities.
Strong English language skills and ability to work independently in a globally distributed team.
Experience leading/participating in incident response and post-incident review rituals.

Responsibilities

Perform day-to-day operational/DevOps tasks on Wikimedia’s public facing infrastructure (deployment, maintenance, configuration, troubleshooting).
Implement and utilize configuration management and deployment tools (Puppet, Kubernetes).
Lead continuous improvement by automating installation, configuration and maintenance of services.
Collaborate with product teams to design scalable services and enable them to operate at scale.
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and incident response across production infrastructure.
Work with a global, cross-functional team in an asynchronous environment.
Mentor peers in technical and operational strengths.
