Job summary

Paycom seeks a Senior Database Administrator to serve as the technical authority for database engineering and operations. You will ensure reliability, security, performance, and recoverability of our enterprise SQL Server environments, reporting to the CIO and guiding architectural improvements.

In this role, you will manage SQL Server instances, design scalable schemas, optimize T-SQL, and lead DR exercises. Strong collaboration with DevOps, engineering, QA, and product teams is essential.

Qualifications

• 7+ years hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
• Proven expertise in database design, performance tuning, and administration.
• Strong knowledge of security, backup, DR, and high-availability solutions.
• Experience with Azure SQL (VMs, Managed Instance, Azure SQL Database).
• Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain enterprise SQL Server environments and Always On availability groups.
• Lead root-cause analysis of database incidents and implement preventative solutions.
• Oversee backup strategies, verification processes, and disaster recovery testing.
• Collaborate with DevOps, engineering, QA, and product teams to align database solutions with business needs.
• Mentor developers and contribute to SQL code reviews and best practices.
