Job summary

Wellfleet, a Berkshire Hathaway company, seeks a Senior SQL Engineer to lead design, optimization, and maintenance of data systems powering our healthcare operations in Springfield, MA. You will plan, develop and maintain databases while solving performance challenges in a complex environment.

This role requires collaboration with cross‑functional teams, external vendors, and IT leadership to ensure robust, scalable, and secure data infrastructure and to drive governance and security initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; 5+ years in IT.
• Strong analytical and prioritization skills to meet business goals.
• Deep expertise in T‑SQL, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization.
• Strong understanding of the Microsoft tech stack (.NET, Visual Studio).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Git) and automated deployments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Word and Access.
• Ability to translate complex requirements into scalable data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Architect and optimize SQL Server databases for scalability and performance.
• Design and implement advanced T‑SQL solutions including stored procedures, triggers, and indexing strategies.
• Lead performance tuning with query profiling and execution plan analysis.
• Develop and maintain robust ETL pipelines using SSIS or similar frameworks.
• Collaborate to enhance CI/CD pipelines for deployments and version control.
• Drive data architecture decisions to support analytics and growth.
• Mentor junior developers and establish SQL development standards.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data solutions with stakeholders.
• Automate and monitor overnight jobs and scheduled processes.
• Manage production environments and coordinate cross‑team support.
• Document procedures, data flows, and system dependencies.
