Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on database administration and development experience across both Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments.
• Advanced experience with database performance tuning including execution plans, query optimization, indexing, statistics, blocking, deadlocks, and wait analysis
• Strong production troubleshooting experience involving database performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, security, backup, and recovery
• Hands on experience implementing and supporting high availability and disaster recovery solutions for SQL Server and PostgreSQL
• Experience developing, deploying, and troubleshooting SSIS packages and designing and maintaining SSRS reports
• Experience automating database and operational tasks using PowerShell, T SQL, Python, Bash, or similar scripting technologies
• Experience with Git or GitHub, source control practices, and the software development lifecycle
• Strong communication, prioritization, and problem solving skills with the ability to mentor team members and communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, including security, access, backup, recovery, patching, upgrades, and capacity planning
• Manage high availability and disaster recovery solutions including Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, PostgreSQL streaming replication, and failover strategies
• Lead database performance tuning using execution plans, indexing, statistics, wait analysis, query optimization, Query Store, DMVs, EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and related diagnostic tools
• Troubleshoot production database performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, and security issues while performing root cause analysis to prevent recurring problems
• Design, develop, review, and optimize stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, tables, indexes, partitions, constraints, and other database components
• Develop, deploy, and support SSIS packages, SQL Agent jobs, SSRS reports, and automated operational processes
• Partner with technical and business stakeholders to translate requirements and change requests into reliable and scalable database solutions
• Mentor database administrators and developers while establishing standards for database development, performance, reliability, and operational support

Role Summary

The Intersect Group is seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to own the administration, performance, availability, and ongoing improvement of Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments. This position combines traditional database administration with database development, performance engineering, automation, and technical leadership.

You will manage production database environments, lead complex performance tuning and troubleshooting efforts, and support high availability and disaster recovery strategies. The role will also design and optimize database code, support ETL and reporting solutions, automate operational processes, and partner with business and technology teams on evolving application requirements. You will serve as a senior technical resource while helping mentor other database professionals and establish database standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL environments, including security, access, backup, recovery, patching, upgrades, and capacity planning

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
• Microsoft Azure Database Administrator, AWS Database, PostgreSQL, or comparable database certifications
• Experience with SQL Server 2019 or newer, including database migrations and version upgrades
• Experience with cloud database technologies including AWS RDS, Aurora, or SQL Server on EC2
• Experience with database management and monitoring tools such as Redgate or Idera
• Familiarity with Jira, C#, or other technologies commonly used within application development environments

Working Conditions

• Primarily office based work involving extended periods working at a computer
• Participation in a weekly on call rotation supporting SQL Server and PostgreSQL incidents, including occasional after hours and weekend response
