Job Description:

The Senior Specialist, Project Engineer is responsible for leading execution of complex military avionics non-recurring engineering (NRE) development programs and supporting transition into production and sustainment. This role provides cross-functional technical and program leadership across the full product lifecycle, including requirements definition, architecture and design maturity, development, integration, verification, qualification, manufacturing readiness, and production ramp. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience in military avionics electronics and/or display systems, including leadership of development efforts in regulated defense environments and successful transition of products from design into low-rate and/or full-rate production.

Essential Functions:

• Lead project engineering execution for military avionics NRE development programs from program kickoff through qualification, customer acceptance, and transition to production.
• Serve as the engineering lead for complex multi-discipline efforts involving systems, electrical, mechanical, optical, software, FPGA, reliability, specialty engineering, and test.
• Partner with Program Management to establish and maintain integrated technical, cost, and schedule plans aligned to program objectives and contractual commitments.
• Drive execution through all major program reviews and technical milestones
• Coordinate technical baseline management
• Lead engineering support for proposal, capture, and basis-of-estimate activities for follow-on development, product upgrades, and production efforts.
• Ensure alignment of product design with design-to-cost, design-for-manufacture, design-for-test, design-for-reliability, and supportability objectives.
• Work closely with Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality to multiple areas
• Support development and execution of EVMS, integrated master schedules, risk and opportunity management plans, and technical performance measures.
• Identify, communicate, and resolve technical, cost, schedule, and producibility risks across the development and production lifecycle.
• Interface directly with internal leadership, customers, and suppliers to communicate program status, technical issues, recovery plans, and execution strategy.
• Provide guidance, coaching, and technical leadership to less experienced engineers and project engineers.
• Support factory and customer-site activities as required.
• Travel up to 10%.
• Ability to obtain Secret Security clearance.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience leading military avionics electronics, display, mission systems, or related hardware development programs.
• Experience executing NRE development programs from requirements through integration, verification, qualification, and production transition.
• Experience leading complex, multi-discipline engineering teams across one or more of the following areas: systems, electrical, mechanical, optical, software, FPGA, reliability, and test
• Experience managing projects and/or engineering scope associated with budgets of $10M+.
• Ability to develop and execute plans that achieve technical, cost, schedule, quality, and manufacturing readiness objectives.
• Experience with design-to-cost and cost reduction initiatives across development and production phases.
• Experience leading Government contract development programs for military avionics or airborne electronics.
• Experience transitioning avionics products from development into production, including prototype, qualification, low-rate initial production, and full-rate production support.
• Experience with environmental and qualification testing applicable to avionics products.
• Experience with manufacturing readiness, producibility improvement, and production issue resolution.
• Experience with requirements management, configuration management, and verification planning/execution.
• Experience with supplier management, obsolescence management, and long-lead material planning in defense programs.
• Experience supporting program pursuit, capture, and proposal activities.
