Role: MongoDB Senior Administrator
Shift & Coverage
- Primary Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM EST (East Coast)
- Secondary Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM MST (Mountain Time)
- After‑Hours Support: Overtime coverage for critical Priority 1 incidents during active engagement periods
- Coverage Window: 14‑hour operational span with 1‑hour shift overlap for seamless handoff and knowledge transfer
Job Responsibilities
- Database Management – Administer, maintain, and implement permission policies and procedures to ensure secure connectivity and database integrity
- Performance Tuning – Monitor database performance, apply patches and versions, and collaborate with application teams to optimize NoSQL interactions
- Failover & Recovery – Design and execute backup and recovery strategies, including failover planning and testing
- Migration & Upgrade – Lead projects migrating on‑premises or AWS‑hosted relational databases to NoSQL (MongoDB), including planning, execution, and validation
- Security & Compliance – Implement database security measures, access controls, audit logging; comply with data privacy laws and regulations
- Backup Strategy – Define and implement backup strategies per retention requirements
- Production Support – Diagnose and resolve production issues 24×7
- Best‑Practice Development – Develop and document best practices for maintenance, monitoring, migration, and failover strategies
- Monitoring – Utilize AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to ensure database health, performance, and automated scaling and notifications
- Troubleshooting & Support – Provide support for complex database issues, including integrity, performance, blocking, deadlocking, replication, and log‑shipping issues
Required Skills and Experience
- Solid NoSQL (DocumentDB & MongoDB) expertise
- Proven DBA experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB)
- AWS Managed Databases experience with MongoDB RDS services
- Experience with failover, recovery, and disaster‑recovery planning
- Proficiency in MongoDB Query Language (MQL), database design, and data modeling
- Familiarity with AWS CLI, SDKs, and CloudWatch
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Desired Additional Skills
- AWS or relevant database certifications
- Scripting experience (Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks
- Deep familiarity with monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch
- Experience with enterprise‑scale database design, implementation, and optimization
- Knowledge of BigQuery (plus)
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team, and thrive in a dynamic, high‑demand environment
- Strong team‑player with excellent collaboration and cross‑functional communication skills
Customer Requirements
- Public Trust clearance and favorable suitability based on a CBP background investigation
- U.S. citizenship required
- Availability for EST and MST hours, flexible for on‑call and extended incident response periods
- Compliance with background verification related to health and employment per customer guidelines
