Ascension Healthcare is seeking a Claims Manager to lead and manage medical professional liability claims within the organization. This role involves investigation, negotiation, and collaboration with legal counsel to resolve complex claims effectively. Candidates should have relevant experience and educational qualifications, ideally with a Juris Doctorate and leadership exposure. **Responsibilities**
Lead and support medical professional liability claims and litigation for the Ascension Health Alliance Professional Liability and General Liability Self-Insurance Trust. Responsible for case strategy, investigation and oversight of case action plan in collaboration with insured and defense counsel.
Responsibilities:
+ Investigate and process general and professional liability claims from first notice of loss through resolution including coverage, liability, damage evaluations and resolution. Responsible for claims handling of highly complex medical malpractice matters and handling of batches.
+ Establish reserves based on protocols and authority procedures.
+ Oversee litigation assigned to external counsel and manage panel counsel retained for litigated claims. Negotiate settlements directly with patients, plaintiff attorneys and/or direct defense counsel within approved authority.
+ Complete National Claims Committee reports for large loss matters.
+ Attend and present to self-insured clients’ board, hospital leadership committee, or claim meetings as requested. Collaborate with claims leadership to achieve Key Performance Indicators for the claims team.
+ Serve as mentor to team members on proper investigative techniques, documentation and resolution.

**Requirements**
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Bachelor's degree with 1 year of experience OR 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required. 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
**Additional Preferences**
+ Juris Doctorate preferred
+ High exposure jurisdiction preferred
