GBH in Boston, MA, is seeking a Senior Special Counsel to oversee the legal and editorial integrity of FRONTLINE content across platforms. Reporting to Managing Editor with a dotted line to the GBH General Counsel, the role advises on fair use and First Amendment issues while upholding FRONTLINE’s editorial standards.

The ideal leader will guide editors and producers, work with partners, and support risk mitigation in a fast-paced environment. Hybrid onsite work is supported in Boston.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, JD and Bar admission required.
• Minimum 10 years in First Amendment, copyright and fair use law.
• Experience in recognized media/entertainment firms or in-house.
• Experience with content production and editorial standards.

Responsabilités

• Review FRONTLINE content for legal issues including privacy, defamation and fair use.
• Advise on solutions to mitigate risk and ensure publishable content.
• Review fact checks, transcripts, and materials for legal/editorial issues.
• Partner with Executive Producer, Editor-in-Chief, and Managing Editor on new initiatives.
• Review interview transcripts for potential editorial/legal issues.
• Attend regular meetings with FRONTLINE staff and liaise with GBH Legal as needed.
• Ensure compliance with laws and GBH policies and internal processes.
