Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Spacecraft Thermal Engineer (Senior/MST) to lead thermal analysis, modeling, and testing for spacecraft and payload thermal control subsystems. On-site work in Chantilly, VA or El Segundo, CA is required.

Qualified candidates hold a Master's in mechanical or aerospace engineering (heat transfer emphasis) with 0–1 year of experience and must obtain TS/SCI clearance. Travel ~10% and a competitive compensation package are offered.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with heat transfer emphasis (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months).
• 0–1 year of industry work experience.
• Experience with spacecraft thermal control systems design, analysis, testing, and operation.
• Experience with SINDA/FLUINT and Thermal Desktop; other software include TSS, EES, SpaceClaim, CAMEO, FORTRAN and Python.
• Experience with thermal vacuum (TVAC), thermal cycling, and environmental tests.
• Willingness to travel ~10% to customer or contractor facilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis, modeling, and experimental investigations of thermal control systems for spacecraft and payloads.
• Review thermal subsystem requirements, allocations, and design for integration and test.
• Provide technical leadership to teams of 2+ engineers across programs and projects.
• Engage with internal and external customers to resolve design and performance issues.
• Curate departmental knowledge in thermal systems engineering, analysis, and hardware.
