Job summary

Planet Labs is seeking a senior satellite systems engineer to join our team in San Francisco. You will interface with customers, coordinate across multiple engineering disciplines, and guide AI&T, verification, and validation of satellite and ground systems.

A strong background in orbital subsystems and requirements engineering is essential. The role emphasizes collaboration with mission operations and data products teams to ensure customers' needs are met.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or similar field.
• 5+ years in design and development of satellite systems.
• Customer-facing experience in briefings and design reviews.
• Understanding of satellite subsystems: Mechanical, Thermal, ADSCS/GNC, Propulsion, or Electrical.
• Familiarity with requirements formulation, validation and verification.

Responsibilities

• Interface mission specifications between customer and Planet’s teams.
• Assess system-level budgets for engineering trades and feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with mission operations and data product teams to meet customer needs.
• Participate in assembly, integration and testing (AI&T) of satellite systems for test planning and anomaly resolution.
• Provide verification and validation of satellite and ground systems across environmental, functional, and end-to-end testing.
• Lead technical coordination of multiple engineering teams: Mechanical, Thermal, ADSCS/GNC, Propulsion, Electrical, Manufacturing.
