Job summary

University of Colorado Boulder’s LASP seeks a senior electrical hardware engineer for hands-on circuit design in space science instruments and spacecraft. You will own hardware from requirements through integration, lead a small design team, and ensure robust qualification for spaceflight environments.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical decisions, with onsite flight hardware work and limited remote allowance per project.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field with 8+ years experience.
• Master's degree with at least 6 years or Doctorate with at least 4 years.
• Demonstrated ownership of a complex electronic assembly from requirements to production.
• Deep capability in at least one design domain (analog, sensors, power, motor control, embedded, FPGA, high-speed) with breadth across adjacent disciplines.
• Schematic capture and PCB design in Altium, Cadence OrCAD, or KiCad.
• Experience modeling and simulating circuit performance using LTspice, Ansys, MATLAB, Python.
• Hands-on lab bring-up and testing with standard equipment; EMI/EMC, thermal-vac, vibration tests.
• Technical leadership for multidisciplinary teams and design reviews.

Responsibilities

• Own design from requirements through production, qualification, and integration.
• Capture schematics in Altium, guide PCB layout, and release PCBA data.
• Lead testing, verification, and environmental qualification activities.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership within project teams.
• Communicate decisions and risks at design reviews and milestone reviews.
