Overview

Astrion is seeking a Senior Space OE Warfare Strategist & Technologist with expertise in military strategy (e.g., SAAS), higher headquarters experience, and Space operational energy technologies. This role supports HQ USSF Future Command, the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) Operational Energy (OE) Innovation office (OE-I), and various Space OE projects. These projects include developing multi-domain and Space OE capabilities to enable future Space Force structures, encompassing policy, doctrine, operational concepts, and technology roadmaps. The work involves integrating the space domain with other warfighting domains—air, land, sea, and cyber—drafting strategies, force structures, and technology roadmaps, and supporting space OE modeling & simulation (M&S) and wargaming efforts. The strategist/technologist will collaborate with the Astrion team to produce integrated unclassified and classified products, ensuring effective sharing of information and visualization of Space and multi-domain OE concepts.

Responsibilities
  1. Expertise in future Space Force systems, including force structure strategies, concepts of operations, and use policies.
  2. Knowledge of Space systems technology, architectures, and roadmaps, including systems for access, maneuver, and mission power.
  3. Understanding of Space systems research, engineering, and acquisitions.
  4. Support for USSF and DOD OE innovation science, technology, and application to future systems.
  5. Propose future force structures and assess operational energy needs.
  6. Analyze current and future energy technologies to determine capabilities for multi-domain force needs, maintaining a competitive OE advantage.
  7. Identify and minimize OE limitations to military operations.
  8. Enhance OE technologies to enable Space Force capabilities.
  9. Develop comprehensive Space energy strategies with implementation recommendations for USSF, OSD OE-I, and operational energy offices.
  10. Support OSD OE-I and its portfolios, applying research, engineering, and writing skills across Space Solar Power, OE, industrial base, and mobility missions.
  11. Apply research findings and technical assessments regarding performance, risks, and operational suitability.
Supporting Tasks
  1. Collaborate on USSF and DOD OE projects.
  2. Support Astrion’s support to USSF and DOD projects to improve effectiveness across Space, Air, Land, Sea, and Cyber domains.
  3. Contribute to projects like SES-SNUP and ROAST, working with labs, academia, and industry to address mission gaps.
  4. Research current and future Space OE technologies and innovations.
  5. Produce high-quality documentation of research and analysis.
  6. Assist in developing software solutions for dialogue, collaboration, and training related to Space OE.
  7. Identify software requirements in collaboration with government labs, academia, and industry.
  8. Support Space wargaming M&S, including software application and system flowchart development.
  9. Develop well-documented software based on stakeholder needs.
  10. Coordinate with AFAMS and other M&S offices on Space OE tools.
  11. Compile lessons learned from operational energy wargames and stakeholder feedback.
  12. Coordinate with Service energy offices, Joint Staff, and CCMDs, including briefings and meetings.
  13. Document research efforts and support administrative project management.
  14. Support other tasks and efforts as directed by OSD and Space Force leadership.
  15. Explore advanced energy technologies and develop Space and Air technology roadmaps.
Work Location and Travel
  • Main locations: Pentagon and Mark Center.
  • Alternate: Melbourne, FL.
  • Remote work may be available.
  • Travel domestically and overseas, requiring a current passport.
Physical Requirements
  • Travel for meetings and conferences, including site visits with industrial surfaces.
  • Overseas travel requiring a current passport.
  • Light lifting for displays and mock-ups.
Clearance Requirements
  • Work ranges from unclassified to Top Secret.
  • Candidate must be clearable to TS/SCI; active TS/SCI preferred.
Experience and Education
  • 20+ years supporting DAF and/or Space Force.
  • At least 5 years supporting DOD, AF Space Command, or Space Force in the DC area.
  • B.S. in STEM; bachelor’s or master’s degree required.
  • Active-duty experience highly desired.
  • SAASS graduate highly desired.
