Job summary

Rocket Lab is the end-to-end space company building rockets, spacecraft, and subsystems. The Senior Systems Safety Engineer I will work with range safety authorities to ensure safe ground processing of spacecraft and ground support equipment at launch ranges.

You will develop safety program plans, tailor safety manuals, perform system safety analyses, and collaborate with engineering and operations to deliver safe, compliant space systems. Base pay range is shown for California only.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, systems, or aerospace engineering; or other technical discipline.
• 5+ years in a relevant engineering role (system safety, certification, aerospace, and/or design of spacecraft).
• Deep understanding of ground safety processes; experience with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent safety programs and prioritize tasks.
• US Citizenship is required due to program requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and update safety program plans and range safety documentation.
• Submit range safety deliverables in support of payload processing at launch sites.
• Tailor safety manuals and standards for Rocket Lab spacecraft programs.
• Develop ground safety procedures for integration and testing of space systems payloads.
• Perform system safety analyses on pressure, propulsion, electrical, and hazardous systems.
• Coordinate with management, engineering, and operations to deliver safe products.
• Support safety reviews of non-space projects and participate in program engineering reviews.
• Occasional travel or off-site work as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
