Job summary

MITRE is seeking a Principal Space Systems Engineer to serve as a senior technical authority across national security space programs. This individual will shape mission priorities, architectures, and investment decisions while aligning cross-organizational teams and sponsors around executable strategies and transitions.

The role requires deep systems engineering expertise, strong leadership, and demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience.
Deep expertise in space-focused areas and systems engineering across lifecycle stages.
Strong writing, executive communication, and collaboration skills.
Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required.

Responsibilities

Serve as principal technical advisor for senior sponsors and MITRE leaders.
Lead multidisciplinary efforts integrating systems engineering, enterprise architecture, and mission engineering.
Provide technical authority across the system lifecycle from concept to deployment and transition.
Lead integration of sensing, C2, battle management, and data systems into resilient capabilities.
Identify strategic gaps and guide prototypes, simulations, and digital engineering initiatives.
