Job summary

Katalyst Space in Colorado is seeking a Senior Space Systems Engineer to develop cohesive architectures and ensure integration of spacecraft subsystems. You will guide trade studies and address gaps between requirements and objectives, shaping the path from concept to flight-ready hardware.

Expect to lead multi-disciplinary teams, support proposals with DoD/OGA partners, and perform risk and reliability analyses. The role demands hands-on leadership and a deep understanding of space environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of satellite systems experience on flight programs and V&V.
  • Ability to define solutions to ambiguous problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in space environment, commercial space operations, and/or robotics.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and perform system-wide architecture design, ensuring subsystems function cohesively and meet overarching system goals.
  • Lead detailed technical efforts and spearhead trade studies of space system architectures.
  • Identify and address gaps between requirements and top-level objectives, decomposing problems into actionable tasks.
  • Support the sourcing and selection of key suppliers, components, and technologies.
  • Integrate spacecraft components, ensuring cohesive system functionality and compatibility across all subsystems.
  • Define Key Performance Parameters, metrics, and modeling approaches for physics-based analyses.
  • Lead small multi-discipline teams on spacecraft design, space mission design, and R&D projects.
  • Assist proposal capture efforts with private/public, DoD, OGA, and other partnerships.
  • Conduct comprehensive system analyses, including risk and reliability analyses and trade studies.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure feasible, requirement-aligned designs.
  • Support hardware-in-the-loop testing to validate integrated system performance.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
