Job summary

Ephemeris Net, based in El Segundo, CA, seeks an Optical Engineer to own the design, build, test, and flight of optical systems for our space networking platform, including coherent transceivers and free-space optics.

You will lead end-to-end hardware design, collaborating with electrical and mechanical teams, and scale to mass manufacturing from breadboard to space-qualified terminals. The role reports to the CTO and founder.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in optical engineering, applied physics, photonics, electrical engineering, or related field.
• 4+ years designing or building precision electro-optical instruments in fiber and/or free-space systems.
• Experience with coherent detection architectures and free-space optical design.
• Familiarity with lab optical instrumentation and RF test equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and assemble coherent transceiver optics from components.
• Design the free-space optical assembly including ray tracing and stray light analysis.
• Design the fiber optical layout and opto-mechanical packaging.
• Own transmit/receive signal chain from RF output to free-space launch and back.
