The Senior Sonographer is responsible for:

  • Performing routine and complex ultrasound examinations as prescribed by a physician.
  • Reviewing and evaluating requisitions for ultrasound imaging procedures, abstracting data from patient charts, and determining the appropriateness of the procedure given the diagnosis and clinical signs.
  • Selecting appropriate equipment and technical factors to identify pathologic and normal anatomy.
  • Assessing patients' and parents' physical and emotional status and developing a plan to adjust to patients' specific needs.
  • Following QC/Data Integrity Workflow process.
  • Practicing High Reliability Communication techniques. Patient/Family/Team Relations.
  • Responding to the clinical condition of the patient.
  • Creating a supportive environment for the patient and family.
  • Promoting a positive work environment in compliance with ETU.
  • Identifying and reporting equipment malfunctions.
  • Assisting in patient scheduling and facilitating efficient workflow within the ultrasound area.
  • Investigating and resolving technical and scheduling issues and performing designated quality assurance functions.
  • Providing instruction on ultrasound procedures for trainees and fellows.
  • Serving as a resource and responding to requests for information or assistance.
  • Participating in departmental and hospital meetings.
  • Completing all required documentation accurately and timely.
  • Complying with ETU policies.
  • Practicing BCH 6 Core Values: excellence, innovation, communication, respect, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Furthering professional education and maintaining knowledge of current regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Taking an active role in research projects involving ultrasound.

Qualifications include:

  • Registration by the ARDMS.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of ARDMS certification and registration.
  • BLS certification.
  • Associates degree in Medical Sonography.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Sonographer.
