Job summary

Boeing Vancouver is seeking a Senior Solution Architect to lead modernizing a large portfolio of legacy apps and to architect cloud-native, AI-enhanced solutions for aerospace customers. Qualifications

• 10+ years in software development lifecycle and design patterns.
• 5+ years modernizing legacy tech and refactoring (DDD, event storming, strangler pattern).
• 5+ years distributed cloud-native API and microservices architecture.
• 5+ years building and operating microservice, containerized, or serverless apps.
• Experience with performance monitoring, diagnostics, and issue resolution.
• Experience with CI/CD, UML, Java/.NET, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS/Azure.
• Experience delivering HA/resilient solutions meeting security standards.
• Familiarity with AI frameworks/tools (AWS Q, GitHub CoPilot, Claude CODE).

Responsibilities

• Partner with senior business and technology leaders to understand the business needs that drive technology decisions.
• Create and execute technology roadmaps, owning the technical scope of your area end to end — shaping architecture, driving implementation, and planning delivery with your team.
• Modernize legacy applications, and architect greenfield applications — frontend, backend, APIs, and the integrations that connect them across complex enterprise environments.
• Select strategies, patterns, and practices for modernizing and refactoring legacy applications, and enable product teams to adopt them while continuing development and maintenance on existing applications.
• Design applications and microservice architectures to be adaptable, cost-optimized, cloud-native SaaS technologies in a globally distributed, multi-platform environment, able to scale and be operated by teams beyond the ones that built them.
• Write and review code across multiple languages and paradigms, integrate AI, ML, or LLM capabilities into solutions, and implement CI/CD pipelines and delivery automation that give teams confidence to ship frequently.
• Make day-to-day technology and architecture decisions that drive innovation and agility while minimizing risk and cost, identifying technical risk early and escalating decisions with broader implications to leadership.
• Own the Architectural Standards and Practices and the architectural artifacts and technical documentation that communicate technology adoption and decisions, while allowing differentiation specific to our business division goals.
• Serve as a technical lead for a small team of developers — coaching, pairing, and uplifting them through code review and mentorship, driving adoption of AI-assisted development methods, and acting as the technical point of contact for your area.
• Assist in evaluating products for being well-architected and well-managed, and work closely with the Information Security Office and Enterprise Cloud to ensure security and regulatory compliance requirements are met.

Boeing Vancouver is currently looking for a Senior Solution Architect to join our team in Richmond, BC.

The Solution Architect must have a broad technical background with experience in leading edge, cloud native, AI driven solutions and modernizing a large portfolio of legacy applications. The candidate needs strong technology leadership, analytical skills, teamwork, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will need to communicate at different levels in the organization to other technical personnel, business leaders and customers. This role will drive innovative, evolutionary, reliable, scalable solutions that advance efficiency and safety in the aviation industry.

Position Responsibilities

BasicQualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• 10+ years of experience working and executing with software development design patterns, methodology and life cycle, including:
• 5+ Years of experience with Legacy technology modernization and refactoring techniques such as domain driven design (DDD), event storming, strangler fig, transitional architectures, etc;
• 5+ Years of experience with distributed, cloud-native, API and Microservices architecture including service orchestration.
• 5+ years of experience developing and operating microservice, containerized, or serverless applications.
• Experience with application performance management technologies, diagnostics, and issue resolution management.
• Experience in development frameworks, cloud native technologies and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines, UML, Java, .Net, Docker, Kubernetes, JavaScript, AWS/Azure Cloud.
• Experience with delivering High Availability (HA), resilient solutions that meet regulatory requirements and information security standards.
• Experience with AI: Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks and tools (e.g., AWS Q, GitHub CoPilot, Claude CODE) and understanding of AI concepts, algorithms, and applications.
• Must be legally able to work in Canada.
• Individual must not pose a risk for safeguarding controlled goods.
• Must be eligible to handle US export-controlled data.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Knowledge of the Cloud Well-Architected principles.
• Designing Big Data Solutions, Medallion architecture and Distributed Data Mesh (e.g. experience with Databricks, Palantir, Snowflake etc.).
• Strong interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
• Experience with enabling an organization centric targeted to business outcomes.
• Ability to inspire and lead.
• Proven experience to research, advise, compare and recommend technology solutions; ability to demonstrate and maintain method of keeping current on new technologies.
• Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.
• Experience with airplane health and maintenance domains.
