Job summary

Eurofins USA is seeking a Senior Solid State NMR Scientist in Groton, CT to support solid-state NMR data collection and interpretation for pharmaceutical materials. You will work with a team on crystalline and non-crystalline APIs, excipients, and drug products, applying quantitative ssNMR methods with minimal supervision.

This full-time position emphasizes collaboration with Materials Science, rigorous data analysis, and proactive development of new analytical approaches.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry or related field with ssNMR expertise or a BA/MS with 2-3+ years ssNMR experience.
• Experience in ssNMR sample prep, data acquisition, interpretation of 1D/2D spectra.
• Experience in solid-state characterization techniques (powder XRD, microscopy, DSC/TGA) is a plus.
• Understanding of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, Raman) is an advantage.
• Strong data analysis skills and independent, organized work style.

Responsibilities

• Apply ssNMR to characterize pharmaceutical materials (crystalline and non-crystalline APIs, excipients, intermediates, drug products).

• Plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision.

Senior Solid State NMR Scientist

Job Description

The Senior Solid State NMR Scientist provides laboratory support in solid-state NMR (ssNMR) data collection and interpretation for pharmaceutical materials.

• Apply ssNMR to characterize a broad range of pharmaceutical materials (crystalline and non-crystalline small molecule APIs, excipients, drug product intermediates, and drug products)
• Apply quantitative ssNMR methods to measure components of APIs and drug products
• Plan and perform experiments with minimal supervision
• Collaborate with colleagues in Materials Science to define and implement characterization strategies
• Solve scientific problems using contemporary Materials Science experimental techniques
• Contribute to the development of new scientific approaches and knowledge within the Materials Science organization
• Ensure contemporaneous and accurate entries are made in the electronic laboratory notebook system according to accepted good practice

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in chemistry or equivalent field with expertise in ssNMR or a B.A./M.S degree in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with 2-3+ years of ssNMR experience
• Experience with ssNMR sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of 1D and 2D spectra
• Experience in solid state characterization techniques (such as x-ray powder diffraction, polarized light microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, spectroscopy, etc.) is an advantage.
• Experience and understanding of vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR, NIR, FT-Raman) is an advantage.
• Understanding of physical, analytical, and organic chemistry.
• Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
• Good organizational skills, the ability to work independently, and excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
• A strong interest and motivation to learn new technologies and concepts is expected.
