Job summary

Abbott Laboratories in Alameda, CA is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to lead verification across cloud, mobile, and connected devices within a regulated medical device environment.

You will own end-to-end software verification, develop test plans, and drive automation in CI/CD pipelines while ensuring regulatory compliance under FDA 21 CFR, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304. Collaboration with product and engineering teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years in software verification and quality engineering.
  • 2+ years in medical device software development under FDA 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304.
  • Experience with test automation across mobile, web, API, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with modern CI/CD ecosystems like GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, Harness.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end software verification for cloud services, mobile apps, and devices.
  • Translate requirements into verification strategies, plans, and test cases.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve verification plans, reports, and regulatory alignment.
  • Partner with product managers, architects, developers, and quality teams.
  • Support risk management activities, including analysis and root-cause investigations.
  • Design scalable manual and automated testing spanning functional to regression testing.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This Senior Software Test Engineer position works onsite in our Alameda, CA location for Lingo.

We are seeking a Software Test Engineerto lead verification and validation efforts across ourcloud, and mobile platformswithin a regulated medical device environment. This role plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, regulatory compliance, and scalable delivery.

What You’ll Work On
  • Own and executeend‑to‑end software verificationfor cloud services, mobile applications, and connected devices, ensuring quality throughout the development lifecycle
  • Translateproduct and technical requirementsinto comprehensive verification strategies, test plans, test cases, and execution plans
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improveverification plans, protocols, and reportsin compliance with FDA 21 CFR, ISO 13485, IEC 62304, and related standards
  • Partner closely with product managers, architects, developers, and quality teams to ensure requirements aretestable, traceable, and alignedwith verification strategies
  • Supportrisk management activities, including risk analysis, defect triage, impact assessments, and root‑cause investigations
  • Participate indesign reviewsand verify design inputs and outputs meet regulatory and quality expectations
  • Design and implementscalable manual and automated testing strategiesspanning functional, integration, system, and regression testing
  • Contribute to and evolvetest automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, embedding quality into continuous delivery workflows
  • Drivecontinuous improvementacross verification processes, tools, metrics, and automation coverage
  • Mentor and guidejunior test engineers, promoting strong engineering discipline, automation best practices, and regulatory excellence
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ yearsofexperience in software verification and quality engineering
  • 2+ yearsof experience in medical device software development underFDA 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304
  • Strong expertise inmedical device V&V, including defect management and requirements traceability
  • Demonstrated experience identifying and implementingtest automation opportunitiesacross mobile, web, API, or similar platforms
  • Experience working withinmodern CI/CD ecosystems(e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines, Harness)
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills, with a collaborative mindset
Preferred
  • Background inhealthcare or other regulated industries
  • Strongautomation‑first mindset
  • Hands‑on experience building scalable automation frameworks (e.g.,Pitesti, Playwright, Jest, REST Assured)
  • Proficiency inPython, JavaScript, or TypeScript, with the ability to create reusable automation tools
  • Solid understanding ofSDLC, QA methodologies, and compliance requirements such asHIPAA and GDPR
  • Experience withsystem integration and end‑to‑end testinginvolving both software and hardware components
  • Familiarity withcloud‑native architectures and microservices testing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in consumer health, digital health, or other regulated industries where software quality has direct user safety implications.
  • Familiarity with CGM, biosensor, or IoT data integration in mobile applications.
  • Exposure to AI or data‑driven consumer features, such as personalized insights, recommendation systems, or on‑device ML.
  • Prior experience at a high‑growth consumer technology company or startup environment.
