Job summary

Peraton seeks a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers in designing, building, and delivering secure, scalable satellite ground communications and data-transport platforms. You will balance hands-on development with people leadership, mentoring engineers, hiring, and performance management.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience, may have supervisory or management experience.
• Requires a minimum of Secret clearance.
• Proficiency in Python for backend systems and API development; microservice architectures; PostgreSQL, Kafka, OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Unix shell scripting.
• Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing relational databases and SQL-based capabilities.
• Experience implementing authentication and authorization mechanisms including RBAC, ABAC, OAuth 2.0, JWT, and Zero Trust principles.
• Proficiency in front-end development using TypeScript, Vite, and component-based architecture.
• Experience with Git-based source control (Git, GitHub), CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Experience troubleshooting production issues with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end architecture and implementation of cloud-native services with multi-tenant AWS platform design.
• Contribute to full-stack development; code reviews and mentoring to ensure high-quality solutions.
• Oversee staffing, performance reviews, and career development to grow the team.
• Translate requirements into architectures, specs, and prioritization.
• Collaborate with MBSE, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Test teams for traceability.
• Lead backend development with Python for APIs and data processing.
• Lead frontend design for reusable, accessible components.
• Define secure authentication and RBAC/ABAC across applications.
• Lead integration, deployment, and production-support with DevSecOps.
• Identify risks and dependencies; develop mitigation plans.
• Evaluate new technologies for secure government-grade environments.
• Resolve complex satellite ground-system challenges.
