Job summary

Mytra Robotics is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to integrate perception software with robotics firmware across our fleet. You will collaborate with hardware and software teams, own firmware development through the product lifecycle, and contribute to real-time embedded systems critical to robot performance.

The role requires strong Python, C/C++/Rust, multithreading, and robotics knowledge, plus experience with CAN, Ethernet, and network pub/sub like NATS.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong experience with Python, particularly in application and process level development.
• Experience with C/C++/Rust and system level environments.
• Ability to break down complex problems into incremental progress in CI environments.
• Experience coding in concurrent and multithreaded environments.
• Understanding of electromechanical systems, kinematics, and robotics control.
• Experience with network technologies including CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, and NATS.
• Understanding of how hardware changes affect robotics software and vice-versa.
• Understanding of software design and maintainability patterns.
• Preferred experience in embedded software/firmware development.
• Ability to build robust diagnostic tools from system data.

About the role

Mytra’s robotics team is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to develop software critical for the integration of our perception software and our robotics firmware across our robotic fleet as we scale. You will collaborate closely across multidisciplinary hardware and software teams, own firmware development throughout the product lifecycle, and contribute significantly to real-time embedded systems critical to our robot's performance.

What you’ll do:

• Deliver high quality code across many layers of the robotics software stack
• Implement highly performant and real time code for perception and critical control functions
• Identify performance, maintainability, and reliability of code changes
• Contribute to the complete life cycle of software features including feature definition, implementation, test plan, and roll out strategy
• Assess and contribute to long-term architectural decisions as software evolves
• Lead and manage integration of initial prototype systems including bring-up, debug, and engineering test of alpha and beta phase prototype robots

Ideal Candidates

• BS in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
• Strong experience with Python, particularly focused on application and process level development
• Experience with C/C++/Rust and system level environments
• Demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into actionable incremental progress in a continuous integration development environment
• Experience coding in concurrent and multithreaded environments
• Understanding of electromechanical systems, kinematics, and robotics control
• Experience with network communication technologies, including CAN, Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP, and pub/sub frameworks like NATS
• Understanding of how hardware changes affect robotics software and vice-versa
• Understanding of Git and software version management
• Strong knowledge of software design and maintainability patterns
• Preferred experience in embedded software and/or firmware development
• Ability to fluently interpret system data to root cause logged faults and build robust diagnostic tools

Nice to have:

• Experience with Linux operating systems and kernel fundamentals
• Experience in computer vision and deep learning skills (detection, segmentation, tracking, depth estimation) together with solid classical and geometric CV, including camera calibration and projection geometry.
• A track record of shipping perception to production on real systems, with the data-centric debugging instincts to know why models break and how to fix them.

Pay Notice

Compensation for this position will be set based on the candidate's experience level and location. The posted salary band is applicable only to the San Francisco Bay Area and is subject to change.

Pay Range for this position is:
$190,000 – $210,000
